What is Open AIR?

Open AIR is a digital archive for sharing and preserving the scholarly and creative output of Appalachian State University, including the journal articles, theses, and dissertations that were standard fare at NC DOCKS, as well as datasets, media content ranging from performance videos to podcasts, and other locally produced academic materials, including Open Educational Resources, and software.

Who Is eligible to deposit work into the repository?

Open AIR is available to faculty, researchers, students, and staff affiliated with Appalachian State. For details on the scope of content accepted into the institutional repository, please refer to the collection policy (coming soon).

How do users access materials in the repository?

End users can access materials by searching the repository using a variety of metadata: keywords, author names, or other relevant criteria. The quality of the metadata directly impacts how easily end users can discover and access the content they are looking for. Therefore, App State contributors are encouraged to provide as complete metadata as possible for their items to enhance discoverability.

The repository is open to the public, allowing end users to freely access most of the content.

Are there file size limitations?

Preliminarily each depositor is allocated a quota of 5 GB. Anyone who needs more space for datasets or other large files can put in a request ticket.

What file formats are supported for deposit?

The repository supports a wide range of file formats, including PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, and more.

Whom do I contact for help with metadata fields, DOIs, and related technical aspects when adding content to the repository?
