Green Design and Construction: Find Books and More

Find Books, Web Sites, Media, and More

The library catalogs below identify materials available locally as well as throughout the country, and are good starting points for research.

Library Catalog

Search the Catalog to find books, recommended web sites, films, government publications, and other sources of information on your topic. The topics listed on the Where Do I Start tab at the top of this library guide are good starting search points.

In the Library catalog, select the Books & Media search option, then pick the Subject or Keyword search options in the drop down menu.

You can refine your search by limiting the results. For instance, you can limit to items at ASU, to recent publications, or to web sites only. Click on the Limit/Sort Search tab at the top of the results page.

You can also search the holdings of libraries beyond ASU. After you choose the Books and Media option, click on the drop-down box where Appalachian State University is shown. Select WNCLN to search the holdings of UNC-Asheville and Western Carolina as well as ASU. Yu may request to borrow items from UNCA and WCU via the ABC Express (Asheville, Boone, Cullowhee: ABC), which are delivered to ASU three times a week.

WorldCat

WorldCat lists the holdings of libraries around the world. You can limit the result by year, format, or other factors to tighten up your search.

Get Items Not Held by the ASU Library

Although it is impossible for Appalachian's Library to purchase every publication on a topic, it pays for databases that allow you to see what else is out there. A good example is WorldCat, which is a guide to the holdings of hundreds of libraries across the country. If you find a publication in WorldCat that you would like to see, select CLICK HERE FOR ILLIAD REQUEST under External Resources. Fill out the online form and the ASU Library will try to borrow a copy for you to use, at no cost to you. Go to the Illiad page for more information.

The Library will also borrow or get copies of magazine and journal articles, government publications, and other items you may find that are not in the ASU Library collections. Many databases feature a link that you to request the item directly on the screen you are viewing. In other cases, you can use the Illiad system.
