How to Communicate with Faculty

Tips for Communicating with Faculty:

  • After class is a good time to chat with faculty. Make sure to ask if they have time to talk as they might be going from class to class.
  • Office hours (see more below) offer a designated time you can speak with your professor.
  • If you are unavailable during their office hours, you can email them to try and arrange another meeting time.
  • Email is usually the preferred contact method. If you call, make sure you do it at a reasonable time.
  • Plan ahead to make the most of any meetings with faculty.

Office Hours

Office hours are usually designated times that professors have set aside for anyone to drop by their office ( for example, Wednesdays from 1 to 3pm). Office hours are usually announced on the first day of class and printed in the course syllabus or the online course page. You can stop by during office hours to get help with the class or discuss other related interests.
