Action, Criticism, and Theory for Music Education is a peer-reviewed journal seriously committed to principles of open access. Founded in 2001, the journal publishes critical, analytical, theoretical, and policy development articles of international interest that illuminate, extend, or challenge the “Action Ideals” of the MayDay Group. Critically-informed scholarship from a broad range of disciplinary perspectives is welcomed: music, education, philosophy, sociology, history, psychology, curriculum theory, and others.

Begun in 1980, Black Music Research Journal is published in the spring and fall of each year and includes articles about the philosophy, aesthetics, history, and criticism of black music. Many issues are devoted to a single theme, such as Blind Lemon Jefferson or black music in Europe.

The primary purpose of The Black Perspective in Music is to provide an opportunity for the free expression of ideas and opinions by persons interested in the Black-American and African performing arts, particularly from the creative point of view. Regular features include articles by musicologists, ethnomusicologists, historians, composers, and performing artists; interviews with well-known personalities in the arts; listings of new books, music, musicals, films, and recordings; announcements of special events (festivals, conferences, premiere performances, symposia), and periodic surveys of bibliographic materials. The Black Perspective in Music was published by the Foundation for Research in the Afro-American Creative Arts.

The Journal of Music History Pedagogy publishes original research on any aspect of the teaching and learning of music history at both the undergraduate and graduate level, for all audiences (majors, non-majors, and the public), and all genres of music. The editorial board seeks to present a balance of practitioner-based research; philosophical essays on educational theory, curriculum, and pedagogical inquiry; and systematic research that promotes a critical dialog about the teaching of music history

Kapralova Society Journal is published twice a year, in winter and in summer. Deadlines for the receipt of articles and reviews: October 15 for the winter issue and April 15 for the summer issue. The society reserves the right to distribute the journal in any medium.

Women and Music is an annual journal of scholarship about women, music, and culture.
