Dissertations and Theses: Step 2a: Finding ASU and NC Dissertations

A library guide to locate dissertations and theses at ASU and around the world.

Finding ASU Theses and Dissertations --Electronic

Starting in 2010, all Appalachian State University masters theses and doctoral dissertations are available electronically through NC DOCKS.  Google crawls NC DOCKS, so they are available through Google Web searches also.  You can also still find them through the Library Catalog.

Finding ASU Theses and Dissertations -- Paper

University Libraries no longer collect paper copies of dissertations and theses.  Look in NC DOCKS for online access.  The electronic dissertations and theses can still be found using the catalog and APPsearch, but NC DOCKS will usually be easier.

Until recently, the University Libraries had collected a copy of most senior honors theses (B.A., etc.), masters' theses (M.A., M.S., M.S.W., etc.) and doctoral dissertations (Ed.D.) written by ASU students.  The masters theses and doctoral dissertations have been moved to the University Archives and are available on a limited basis within the archives.  Ask for help if you need to use them.

Finding North Carolina Dissertations and Theses

Some North Carolina universities make their recent theses and dissertations available online. These include NC State, Duke, and UNC Greensboro.

Several others do not, most notably the public institutions UNC Chapel Hill, East Carolina, and UNC Charlotte.
