Online Library Services

Articles - Web Delivery

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a way for you to request items not available in full-text and/or held at ASU, UNCA, or WCU libraries. We use an online software system called ILLiad for our interlibrary loan service to find it, scan it, and provide it via web delivery. There is no charge for this service. Delivery time for materials requested through interlibrary loan ranges from 2 days to 2 weeks. To avoid delays, please provide complete citation information.

  1. You've searched an article database.  Follow the Find @ ASU prompts.
  2. If no full-text is available follow the link, ILLiad - Article Request (ASU).
  3. You will be prompted to logon to ILLiad.  (If you are a first time ILLiad user you will Register first.)
  4. Once you logon the article request form will be automatically populated with the article's citation.  Submit the request.
  5. Remember you can check ILLiad's Main Menu option View - Outstanding Requests to check the progress of your order.
  6. You will receive an e-mail message indicating when the article is available and how to obtain it.

Optionally, if you have an article citation and you know we don't have it in full-text:

  1. Logon to ILLiad    (If you are you a first time ILLiad user? Register first.)
  2. From ILLiad's Main Menu, click on Article under New Request.
  3. Complete the form. Click the Submit Request button when you are finished.
  4. Remember you can check ILLiad's Main Menu option View - Outstanding Requests to check the progress of your order.
  5. You will receive an e-mail message indicating when the article is available and how to obtain it.

What does "On Hold" mean?  I see this in my account immediately after I request a book from ASU, Western or UNC-A.
After you request a book the first status it has is "On Hold." Status changes to "Due" when it is checked out to you.  This may take 24-48 hours depending on when you submit your request. Hold limits: 10 for undergrads and 10 for grads.

What does "Recall" mean?
You may receive an email message saying your book has been "recalled."  That means someone else has requested it.  Your books are eligible to be recalled after 21 days, and incur steep fines if not returned when due. Note: Items needed for course reserves are subject to immediate recall.

When do I use ILLiad?
