ORCID iDs: ORCID Registration

This guide is intended for Appalachian State University faculty, staff, and students who want to learn more about ORCID iDs and how they can be used to uniquely identify themselves in the research community.

How to Register for an ORCID iD

Instructions

To learn how to register, you may either follow these instructions or watch the video embedded below.

  1. You can register for an ORCID iD at https://orcid.org/register. Some publishers or funders may also prompt you to register for an iD during the manuscript or grant proposal submission process. 
  2. You'll need to provide your name and email address. At this time you will also consent to ORCID's privacy policy and set the desired frequency of ORCID email announcements.
  3. During this process, ORCID will verify your email address against existing ORCID iDs to ensure you don’t already have an ORCID profile. 
  4. Next, verify your email address via a link provided in the email ORCID sends to your email address.
  5. You should now be able to log into your ORCID account.
