New Database: Scopus: Home

Learning to use Scopus

First, Scopus is easy to use, so you generally should not need much help.

We will host two workshops by Elsevier Scopus specialists.

Tuesday, 8/27, 10:00-11:00am
Ask for access to slides.
Thursday, 9/5, 3:00-4:00pm

By the way, the Scopus metadata for the journal Appetite is not wrong.  Nutrition is just oddly placed inside the subject Nursing in Scopus.  See the Sources link in upper right for Scopus journal scores and rankings.

Scopus also shows its journal scores and rankings.  Click on Sources, in upper right.  Look at Nutrition journals, for one example.  (But be skeptical of all rankings.)

For additional tutorials and documentation, please visit Elsevier's Scopus Author Profiles FAQs, general Scopus tutorials, and the Scopus Quick Reference Guide.

Scopus: A replacement for Web of Science

University Libraries is pleased to announce that we are now offering access to Scopus, a replacement for Web of Science.

Scopus is one of the largest abstract and citation databases of peer-reviewed literature. With over 90 million records in its archive, the database provides researchers access to the global research landscape across various disciplines, including science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities.

In addition to the references for each document, Scopus tracks cited references as far back as 1970. Various metrics are available for references (e.g., times cited), journals (e.g., CiteScore, a competitor metric to Impact Factor), and authors (e.g., h-index). Scopus is a trusted and user-friendly search tool that only includes the highest quality journals.

University Libraries joins several other institutions in replacing Web of Science with Scopus. Additional documentation can be found on the Elsevier's Scopus guide and UNC Chapel Hill.

Feedback and questions?  Please contact John Wiswell, wiswellj@appstate.edu

We can also meet with you to show you how to use Scopus, or if you prefer, make you a brief video on any task.  We'll have more advanced workshops in the early Fall Semester.
