Searching a Library Catalog

Search Tips

Often, a successful search strategy uses both keyword searching and subject searching:

  1. Conduct a keyword search to find materials on your topic.

  2. Examine the list of materials to locate items whose content seems to match your topic.

  3. Once you have identified an item(s), look at the subject field to explore subject heading(s) that best matche(s) your research topic.

  4. Conduct a new search for material on your topic. This time, select subject search and use any of the subject headings that looked promising.
