Library Research Strategies and More: Citation mining

Citation Mining

When you find a relevant item you can use it to find more resources.

  • Use an author's name to find other publications on the same topic.

  • Review the item's bibliography for additional leads.

    • Back in time:  Viewing citations from an bibliography leads back in time to related works.

      • To find an article's full-text when you have the article citation (author, journal title, etc.)

        • Look up the journal title in E-Journals to determine if we have it.
          • Drill down through the pages to locate the year/volume/issue/article you need.

  • Search Google Scholar for items you cannot locate via E-Journal lookup and Library Catalog.
    • Search tip:  When searching Google Scholar always come via the library website so you won't be prompted to pay for resources we have.
    • Use the author's name   or    a combination of the author's last name and part of the article title

  • Forward in time:  Use a product like Google Scholar to move forward in time to see who has cited the article or book you have.

    •  Use the author's name   or    a combination of the author's last name and part of the article or book title
      • Click the "Cited By" link to see the items that have cited the original work.
