First, the authors present a look back into the early period of the research and writing for the chapter topic. Following the early focus, but building toward the future, the second discussion in each chapter focuses on the geographic topic at the beginning of the 21st century. That is followed by a look to the future with speculation and prediction regarding the further development of the discipline.
