This collection consists of material donated by motorsports journalist Mike Hembree. It includes drafts and final versions of articles written by him, background material used in his research, and books written by him or autographed/inscribed to him by the author. Hembree has written about motorsports for print and television for four decades. He has received a number or awards, including the American Motorsports Media Award for Excellence. He is a seven-time winner of the National Motorsports Press Association's Writer of the Year and has won the Russ Catlin Award for motorsports journalism excellence three times. He is the author of fourteen books, including seven racing titles

Material in the Mike Hembree Collection are housed in the Closed Collection of the Special Collections Research Center in Belk Library and  Information Commons, Appalachian State University.
