Annual "Love Data Week" is an international celebration held in mid-February. The event coincides with Valentine’s Day to playfully emphasize the “love” for data and the importance of good data practices, bringing together researchers, librarians, data professionals, and educators to discuss topics such as data ethics, open data access, data literacy, and best practices in handling research data. Through workshops, webinars, and campaigns, Love Data Week fosters a global conversation about the value of data and its role in advancing knowledge and innovation across disciplines.
"Whose Data Is It, Anyway?" #LoveData25
The theme for 2025 is "Whose Data Is It, Anyway?" -- a question that prompts us to think about the distinction between those who own data and those who (re)use it. Data can be collected by various groups—such as researchers, government bodies, corporations, or other organizations—and they might choose to own, share, publish, sell, or merge data. Love Data Week this year encourages us to pause and consider where the data originates before we make use of it.
