Belk Library Hours and Building Access

Update Effective March 30 at 5 p.m. - AppCard access to the Atrium area and Library has been suspended until further notice. 

Library services will continue through the website, chat. teleconference, email, and telephone. We will make every effort to provide electronic versions of the materials you need. Delivery options will remain available for physical items but physical pickup of items in the Atrium has been suspended.


Effective March 23 at 8 a.m.: In order to ensure the safety of our patrons, staff and community, Belk Library will move to offering virtual services only beginning Monday, March 23.

Physical access to library spaces will be restricted to library employees. We have set up 10 desktop computers available to students, faculty and staff in the building’s atrium. The atrium will remain open for students, faculty and staff with AppCard access 24/5 starting Monday, March 23 at 8 a.m.



Changes in library hours will be posted as soon as known.  Consult the library hours calendar for the latest update to hours in Belk Library, Music Library, Special Collections, and the Technology Checkout Desk. 


Belk Library Lower Level:

Idea Factory

  • The Idea Factory is closed.

Tech Desk

  • Faculty, staff and students that need to borrow technology can contact Michael O'Hara (, 828-262-2770). The library will check-out all available technology on a first-come-first-served basis from our drop off location. 
  • All items that are currently checked out will have their due dates extended until the end of the semester, fines for late returns will be waived.

Inspire Maker Lab

  • Closed through end of semester
  • For inquires about online instruction, contact Hannah Pope (, 828-262-2823).

Audio and Video Recording Rooms

  • Not available to be reserved.
  • Faculty wishing to use the rooms for online instruction should contact Hunter Phillips (, 828-262-2786).

Music Library - Broyhill Music Center Building

  • The Music Library will be closed to the public beginning the week of March 23 and may have limited services. If you have questions, please contact Gary Boye (, Music Librarian, or call 828-262-2388


Digitization of General Collection Materials Policy 


The library will digitize collection materials for class use and research if:


  • No electronic version exists and;
  • Your request falls within the guidelines of fair use under Section 107 of the Copyright Act.


We expect a high volume of requests and will fill those on a first come first serve basis. Due to staffing shortages and the volume of requests, there could be delays in getting materials digitized and delivered.
