ASU Solar Vehicle Competes in the American Solar Challenge, August 2016
A student driven team from Appalachian finished third in the track portion of the American Solar Challenge and sixth in the cross-county segment. Team Sunergy was the only university from North Carolina in the competition.

ASU/University of Angiers International Solar Decathlon Entry Ranks 9th

ASU was one of only three American universities selected to compete in the Solar Decathlon in France in 2014. Appalachian  partnered with the University of Angers.

Energy Center

The Energy Center at Appalachian State University conducts energy research and applied program activities in a multi-disciplinary environment. Faculty, staff, and students work on programs in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy technology, biofuels, policy analysis, forecasting, and economic development.

The NC Wind Energy site at ASU provides information on wind resources and use in the state.

ASU Renewable Energy Initiative

This ASU Renewable Energy Initiative, begun in 2004, is a student initiated movement to self-tax themselves to support renewable energy projects on campus. Each semester every student at ASU pays $5 towards the implementation of renewable energy. The Initiative made possible the installation of a wind turbine on campus.
